The Civil Protection Institute indicatively provides research in fields such as:

  • Formulation of joint research activities and publications.
  • Joint organization of scientific and technological conferences, summer schools, seminars and a series of educational activities as well as relevant postgraduate or doctoral programs, both physically and remotely.
  • Co-formulation of proposals for funding and development of international collaborations including research, operational and technological infrastructures, new technologies, applied research, joint actions with the private-investment sector, exchange and mobility of researchers and operational staff as well as joint training.
  • Strengthening of Civil Protection as a supporting framework for investments, infrastructure and actions to be designed and implemented in the Region of Western Macedonia in the context of the transition to the Post-Lignite Era.
  • Support of Public Sector Bodies, Voluntary Organizations and Private Companies in scientific and operational fields of common interest related to civil protection.
  • Protection of investments and infrastructure from natural and man-made disasters, risk reduction, structural integrity control and monitoring of infrastructure using multiple observation sources, training of members of voluntary organizations, support of Municipalities in the preparation of civil protection plans, implementation of good civil protection practices in sectors of the economy -e.g. tourism-, civil protection for protected areas, etc.
  • Development and utilization of innovations and technological systems in the fields of civil protection (e.g. risk analysis, exposure recording, vulnerability assessment, risk management, decision support, emergency logistics).
  • Exploitation and development of systems to assess and reduce infrastructure risk using multiple observation sources (space, in situ, static and dynamic measurements, numerical models, etc.)  with the main objective of controlling structural integrity and remote monitoring of infrastructure at every stage of the disaster management cycle.
  • Organization of actions to support civil protection professionals and members of collaborating voluntary organizations before, during and after operations.
  • Other actions according to developments in the various areas related to civil protection.
