Every day, scientists at the Joint Research Centre, including experts like Ludovica De Girolamo , monitor emergencies, processing data from wildfires and earthquakes to storms and floods. They use AI to speed up the selection, categorisation and analysis of trusted sources. AI allows them to extract key information fast, producing daily updates for the Emergency Response Coordination Centre and the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Faster updates enable a faster response, which helps to save lives. The upcoming EU Strategy for AI in science aims to increase AI uptake by European scientists and make science more impactful and productive.
